  • The Death of Queen Elizibeth I and the Start of James I's Rule

    Queen Elizibeth I, the last of the Tudor Monarchy had died. The only heir was her cousin, James VI of Scotland, who then became James I of england. This brought together England, Ireland and Scottland, all very diffrent coutries. Some of these countries did not get alot because of past conflicts.

  • The Gunpowder Plot

    In 1605, a small group of Catholics Plotted against the Parliements. They planned to blow up the parliement from underneath. They put many barrels full of gunpowder underneath the building. Right when they were about to light the fuse, they were caught.
  • Start of the English Civil War

    In 1642, the English Civil war started. Chalres I caused this because he wanted to add more catholic into the goverment and parliement did not approve. It was the Royalists against the Parliementarians, . Charles I had support from the welsh and the cornish. They almost defeated the parliementarians, however, the parliementarians allied with the scotts. With Scotland, The Parliementarians defeated Charles I and the Royalists.
  • Oxford Surrendered to the Parliments

    Oxford was the King's wartime capital. In june of 1646, Oxford surrendered to the parliements. Charles fled in disguise and put himself under the protection of the Scots.

    After relizing that England could not have peace under Charles I rule, a group of officers from the modle new army decided he had to be charged with high treason. Charles I was tried and found guilty. He was beheaded on January 30th, 1649. This was the end of the English Civil war.
  • Oliver Cromwell was sent to undertake the reconquest of Ireland

    After Charles I's Death, the new rules of england decided to recouncour ireland, They Sent Oliver Cromwell to undertake this action. It wasn't until 1652 when they finally succeded. During his reconquest, Charles II invaded England, however, Oliver Fought back. Oliver Cromwell defeated Charles I

    Charles II came to an agreement with the scottish. Then he invades england, who was under the rule of Oliver Cromwel. Oliver Cromwel defeats Charles II. This Civil war was divided into two groups. the Royalists, also known as the cavaliers. And the Parliamentarians, also known as Roundheads.

    William of Orange invaded England. James Prepared his army and navy over the past summer. James' army greatly outnumbered the dutch. When people heard of Williams arrivial, many anti-catholics rioted in towns and cities across england.
  • End of the Glorious Revolution

    After many of his own family members betrayed him to become Orangists, James II decided to agree to williams demand. James II agreed to call a "free parliment". However, James II was still worried that he was in danger and planned to leave at once. On the 11th December, James made his first attempt to escape. However he was caught. Though he was released on december 23. The Parliament agreed that he would rule as joint monarch with mary. They accepted the Throne On Febuary 13th
  • Toleration Act

    In may of 1689, William was pressured into making the Toleration Act. The Toleration act allowed most religious groups the right to worship. All exept Catholic. This Toleration was much more limited than that envisaged by James II
