    The Enemy, by Charlie Higson is a horror novel that focuses on a group of children one year after a disease swept the world, killing most people 16 and older and turning the rest into mindless, cannabilistic, zombie-like creatures.
  • Small Sam is taken

    Small Sam, a young child, is taken by a group of grownups while playing just outside the walls of a fortified Waitrose supermarket, which Sam and a sizable group of kids use for shelter and defense.
  • Disaster at the pool

    A scavenging party, led by Arran, the Waitrose's group's leader, is ambused while attempting to loot a vending machine that fell into a pool. Arran is wounded while another boy, Freak is killed. Maxie, second in command, assumes temporary leadership since Arran is becoming delirious.
  • Jester arrives

    A boy named Jester arrives with promises of an safe paradise in central London at Buckingham Palace. Though suspicous of him, the Waitrose kids agree to leave and come with him to the Palace. Another group nearby comes also, led by a boy named Blue. Everyone comes except Callum, a boy who prefers to stay at the base.
  • Sam's escape

    Sam awakens inside Arsenal Stadium, where he realizes he is being held captive by the grownups to be eaten later. He escapes, and accidently burns down the stadium.
  • Road to Buckingham

    As the groups make thier way to Buckingham, a large group of grownups assualts them, and in the fight that ensues, Arran is killed and a new group of survivors is met, led by a girl namd Sophie.
  • Nick.

    Sam finds his way to the London Underground, where he meets two grown ups; Nick and Rachel, who appear to be unffected by the sickness; they think and act and are nothing like the zombie-like other grown ups. However, they are still cannibals, and Sam barely escapes with anotehr boy called The Kid.
  • The Palace

    The groups arrive at the palace and meet David King, the head of the Palace. David seems to be very well off but after a bit of poking around by the Waitrose kids, it is soon apparent David has food shortages amongst other problems.
  • Sam arrives at Waitrose.

    Sam arrives to find everyone but Callum gone. Callum gives hi a bike and tells him where everybody went, and Sam is quickly off, searching for Arran and the rest.
  • Showdown.

    The newcomers are sent by David to settle a fued between David and a group of squatters led by a boy named John. Waitrose's best fighter, a boy named Achilleus, fights John over ownership of David's park. Achilleus wins, and an agreement is made to share the park.
  • The Castle

    Sam and The Kid, desperate and hungry, are greeted by an organized group of survivors living in the Tower of London. Thier story ends here.
  • Callum's death.

    Callum, the boy who prefered to stay at Waitrose, is killed when grown-ups break into the supermarket. It becomes apparent that the grown-ups are becoming more organized, and they rally under a few smarter, stronger ones.
  • Escape

    All the Waiteose and Morrisons kids decide to leave, while Sophe's group has already left. David attempts to prevent them from leaving, since he was planning to take over the city using them, but the newcomers leave because they are fed up with his power hungry ambitions. They decide to head to the Natural History Museum.
