    155,000 allied troops stormed the beaches of Normandy, France. This day is known as "the longest day" and by the end of it, the Allies gained a toehold in France.

    An officer planted a bomb in Hitler's headquaters, however the detonation didn't do what was planned. It killed or wounded 20 people, but Hitler went unharmed. This made Hitler believe that this was a sign to keep fighting the advancing troops.

    The Allies liberated Paris. The Germans were ordered to demolish the French capital by Hitler, but they did not listen. This resulted in joyous Parisans and allowed the allies to keep pushing forward.
  • Battle of the Bulge

    Battle of the Bulge
    Hitler's counterattack was for his english-speaking german soldiers to dress up in US attire and cut telephone lines, change road signs, and basically make the allies confused. This would allow German tanks fixed communication and transportation hubs. This almost succeeded but instead the Allies went on the offensive and steadly pushed Germany out of France.

    The Soviet Army had reached the Oder River outside of Berlin. The Allies advanced northward in italy.
  • Hitler's Fall

    Hitler's Fall
    After he made plans an orders that his troops did not follow he realized that he would never get what he was fighting for. Hitler and a few of his closest associates committed suicide on this day.
