Since the blacks were taking over the whites mining jobs, the whites believed they were being brought to take over all their jobs thus caused the mob of whites to start burning the blacks houses in return. -

Both blacks from North & South were lead to believe by the whites that they were not welcomed and must go back to the South even if they were originally in the North to begin with. -
The Result
In result to the riot, white men, women and children burned & destroyed at least $400,000 worth of property that belonged to both whites and blacks. They also drove out 6,000 blacks out of their homes.
