  • Chinese Civil War

    Chinese Civil War
    The Chinese Civil War was fought for over the issue of a communist government versus a democratic givernment. China had been a diplomatic country until a group of communist with the country rose up to bring their ideological government into china. The communists were led by Mao Zedong and those on the side of democracy were lead by Chiang Kai-Shek.
  • Berlin Blockade

    Berlin Blockade
    The Berlin Blockade was a blockade by Russia in West Berlin that kept the city seperated from any countries outside of the USSR. The russians goal in this was for America to concede West Berlin to the USSR. However, this failed due to the Berlin airlift ad the Russians lifted their blockade on May 11th 1949.

    Berlin Airlift
    The Berlin Airlift was the American and allied response to Russia's blockade of West Berlin. The Berlin Airlift was the flying of airplanes into the city to deliver food, medical supplies, and other goods to the citizens trapped within Berlin.
  • Formation of Nato

    Formation of Nato
    NATO is an acronym for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, a group formed in 1949 by the United States and 11 other western nations to help fight against the spread of communism.
  • National Security Council Report NSC-68

    National Security Council Report NSC-68
    NSC-68 report was a top secret paper on the policies of containment and how to handle foreign affairs with Russia. This paper was originally opposed by President Truman in 1951 and would affect the U.S foreign policies with Russia for decades to come.
  • Korean War

    Korean War
    The Korean War followed shortly after the end of Worls War II and began when North Koreans crossed the 38th parallel in mass into South Korea. The goal of the communist North Korea was to take control of the Democratic South Koea. The U.S was highly opposed to this as it was to any spread of communism and so U.S forces were sent in to defend South Korea.
  • President Truman Fires General McArthur

    President Truman Fires General McArthur
    In April of 1951 President Truman fired General McArthur on the grounds that he was stubborn in wanting to use nuclear weaponry and other extreme warfare on the North Koreans. Truman wanted to maintian a limited war without the use of nuclear weapons and ssince General McArthur was a threat to that he was therfore terminated from his position.
  • Formation of The Warsaw Pact

    Formation of The Warsaw Pact
    The Warsaw Pact acted as the communist version of NATO and was primarily ran by Russia. It was an agreement between the seven european satellites of Russia that if one of them were to be attqacked the other nations would step into to defend them.
  • The Launchin of Sputnik

    The Launchin of Sputnik
    In 1957 the first artifical sattelite named Sputnik was launched by the Russians. This came as a surprise to the Americans and incited fear in the U.S that they had fallen behind militarily. The launching of Sputnik became fuel for the arms race and ultimately lead to the great space rac between the U.S and Russia.

  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    In October of 1962 an American U-2 plane observed and photographed various missile launching cites on the USSR occupied Cuba. This incited the fear of a potential missile strike on the U.S and other countries in President Kennedy. In response a deal was made between Russia and Americ that if the Russians dismantled the missiles than America would refrain from invading Cuba.
