Presidency

The Dynamic Presidency

  • The 12th Amendment

    The 12th Amendment
How the President and Vice President were chosen became different. Instead of casting one vote for President and the runner-up being Vice president (because the President and Vice President wouldn't get along since they were rivals during the election), there'll be two different ballots for each of them.
  • The 20th Amendment

    The 20th Amendment
The 20th Amendment made it so that the end of the president and vice president's term will end on January 3rd instead of later because the people wouldn't take the president leaving office in the last couple of months he was in office seriously. That's why the 20th Amendment was passed.
  • The Presidential Succession Act

The Presidential Succession Act means that if the President can no longer be President, then the following people who would replace him in this order: Vice President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, the President pro tempore of the Senate, Secretary of State, Secretary of the Treasury, Secretary of War, Attorney General, Postmaster General, Secretary of the Navy, Secretary of the Interior, Secretary of Agriculture, Secretary of Commerce, and Secretary of Labor.
  • Limited to Two Terms

    Limited to Two Terms
Because of Franklin Roosevelt winning four terms, Congress limited the president to two terms in office by passing the 22nd Amendment.
  • The War Powers Act

    The War Powers Act
The War Powers Act is a law passed by Congress, over President Nixon's veto. It limits the President's power by making it so the President has to get a resolution from Congress if U.S. armed forces go into combat and that if the resolution doesn't get passed the troops have to withdraw within 60 days.
