Pullman company
In 1894, workers in the pullman company, which manufactured sleeping and dining cars went on strike because their wages had been cut. acting out of sympathy for pullman workers, conductors and engineers of the American railways union refused to handle trains with Pullman cars attached. federal judge ordered the stikers back to work, and when they refused, Presiden grover cleveland sent in federal troops. the ensuing violence turned public opinion against strikers, and their president was jailed
