    The leadership of the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) accepted the 1963 definition of audiovisual communications as the first formal definition of educational technology.
    It defined educational technology as “the design and use of messages which control the learning process.” It also established the conceptual view of educational technology as a way of thinking and a process. This definition considered educational technology a theory.
