The play opens with Reverend Samuel Parris discovering his daughter Betty and several other girls dancing in the woods, which sparks rumors of witchcraft in Salem Village. -
April 1692
The community becomes increasingly paranoid about witchcraft, and accusations begin to spread. Reverend Hale arrives in Salem to investigate his claims. -
May 1692
Several members of the community are accused of witchcraft, including Tituba, Sarah Good, and Sarah Osborne. The trials begin and many innocent people are arrested and put on trial. -
August 1692
John Proctor is executed, along with several other innocent people. The hysteria begins to die down, but the damage to the community is irreversible.
