After many years of fighting between the Arabs and the Jews(Arab-Israeli War) the British step and made the Balfour Declaration. This Declaration created the countries of Palestine and Israel. The Jews were to have Israel and the Arabs to have Palestine. There is still much tension between Palestine and Israel to this day. -

The Truman Doctrine was a relations policy brought forth by a speech given by President Turman. The Doctrine stated that the United States would provide military and economic support to Greece and Turkey. This was to prevent these countries from being engulfed by the USSR's sphere of influence. -

Korean War
The Korean War started when North Korea began firing upon South Korea. This lead to US involvement on the side of South Korea where they almost took complete control over North Korea until the Chinese sent troops over to aid the North Korean line. The conflict ended in a stalemate but is not over yet. The US constructed the largest military base outside of its border in South Korea to discourage North Korea from attacking again. -

The Suez Crisis was a War between Egypt and Britian. The US and the USSR had a major influence over the crisis forcing the Brits to withdraw. It ended in a political victory for Egypt. -

Sputnik 1 was the first artifical satellite. it was launched into a low Earth orbit. It consisted of a metal sphere with four radio antennas. These antennas transmitted radio pulses which were detectable from Earth. -

This Cuban missile crisis, also known as the October Crisis, was a 13-day between the United States and Cuba with the help of the USSR. It began was US intelligence aircraft was scanning the area over Cuba and found multiple missile silos. In response to this the US set up a blockade around Cuba with the navy. -

USS Pueblo Incident
The USS Pueblo is a Navy intelligence vessel which was boarded and capture by North Korea. Negotiations for the the release of the crew members that survived that assualt lasted from January 24 to December 23. These negotiations were conducted between North Korean General Pak and United States Admiral Smith. Admiral Smith was later replaced by General Woodward in late April. The USS Pueblo is still being held captive by North Korea which uses it as a mandatory tourist attraction. -

Iran Hostage Crisis
A group of Iranian students raided an United States Embassy in Tehran. A total of fifty-two hostages were taken consisting of United States citizes and diplomats. The Crisis reached its peak on April 24, 1980, when the United States launched a rescue mission off ships patroling around Iran waters. The mission failed resulting in destruction of two United States Aircraft, eight United States soldiers, and one Iranian citizen. Iran finally freed the hostages after 444 days of captivity. -
Olympic Boycott of 1980
The US and some of its Allies boycotts the Moscow Olypmics in protest of the Soviet invasion in Afghanistan. Then in 1984 when the Olympic games are hosted in LA the USSR and other communist countries boycott for security concerns. -
Tiananmen Square Massacre
The Tiananmen Square Massacre was a massacre of chinese citizens who were protesting the governement. The goverment responded by opening fire on the protesters with rifles and tanks killing many of the protesters. -
Dissolution of the USSR
The main cause for the USSR being disbanded was political unrest. This cause the Soviet Millitary and Communist Party to attempt to take out Mikhail Gorbachev in attempt to re-establish a strong regime. The dissoultion was seal on December 26,1991, by declaration no. 142-H of the Soviet Nationalities. Two weeks after the new declaration 8 of the remaing republic signed the Alma-Alta Protocol officialy stating that the USSR was no more.
