The Soviet Union was attempting to make Missile Sites on Cuba for a possible Nuclear attack. Military forces got prepared for a invasion of Cuba, the US made missiles ready to destroy the soviets main cities of an attack were to occur and before anything was to happen JFK met with the Soviet ambassador and diplomacy prevailed with Khrushchev agreeing to stop building nuclear weapons on Cuba -
The Assassination of Diem
The Assassination of Diem became inevitable when Diem became wealthy with power and became a more of a menace then an ally. The Americans originally supported him against the communist leader of the opposing side and Diem eventually became a liability due to his terrible actions and not proving the american way to be the best way. America eventually agreed to help in his assassination. -

JFK was assassinated by a man named Lee Harvey Oswald, he was a past U.S. soldier that believed in communism and turned towards it and resented JFK for his stance against the Soviets -
Tonkin Gulf Resolution
The Tonkin Gulf Resolution was the product of a miscommunication and America believing in a ship down due to a Vietnamese attack. Because of the complication President Johnson provided the resolution which gave him the ability to do what he thought needed to be done. The Resolution wasn't a declaration of war. The resolution resulted in over half a million soldiers being stationed in Vietnam and tension between the two colonies. -

Operation Rolling Thunder was a plan to continuously bomb north Vietnam carpet bombing style covering every inch of land possible and to break the morale and will of the north Vietnamese. -

The Tet Offensive was a series of Vietcong attacks against the Americans in the heart of South Vietnam. It was a ruthless battle and ended up with the Vietcong being almost wiped out alone with the North Vietnam army but also was seen as a defeat for the Americans. -

Nixon was destined to be President someday and won the Presidential election by a land slide with 301 to 191 electoral votes, 32 to 12 state votes, and had a 43.7 vote percentage. Nixon was a well beloved man until the watergate scandal came about and impeachment started. -
