FDR enacted this act. Was created so WWII vets can get money for college and housing. Also covered medical care. -
Baby Boom Generation
Due to the celebration of the end of WWII many decided to make babies. There was a sudden increase in the population. They make up those 40-60 year olds today. -
Iron Curtain
Wall built by USSR to keep west german. It split Germany into west and east. Was later taken down. -
Marshall Plan
American made plan. Efforts to help Europe in the post war era. Hoped it would help turn Europe into anti communists. -
Containment Policy
Military strategy to stop an enemy country from expanding to more land. This was used by the U.S. to stop the spread of communism. -
Truman Doctrine
This was an American policy developed by Truman. It was used against soviets to stop them from expanding. Effort to slow down spread of communism. -
NATO
North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Alliance between many european and north american countries. It was founded after WWII. Countries are able to help each other in times of war or conflict. -
Berlin Airlift
The berlin blockade was the first major crisis during the cold war. The soviet union blocked west germany. Supplies were dropped into west germany by plane. -

Post war migration in the United States. Happened from the 50s all the way to the 80s. People moved from big up north city to big south cities. -

Style of music developed in late 40s early 50s. Derived from blues and country music. Started in the United States. -

The economic boom after WWII that was happening in the U.S. The economy grew 37 percent overall. All thanks to Dwight D. Eisenhower. -

Stereotype in the 50s. Aimed towards the Beat Generation. Focused on superficial aspects. -

Used to find any reason to persecute the enemy. Some accusations were made without any proof even if they were real. -

This trial was about a couple who were believed to be spies for the Soviet Union. -

The Korean war was an attempt to invade South Korea by North Korea. The U.S. intervened to prevent the spread of communism. -

American Businessmen in the 50's. Took McDonalds from the McDonalds brothers. Gave them a small profit of their earnings. -

The idea that once one country reverts to communism then the rest will follow -
Vietnam War
Also known as the second Indochina War. Formation of the viet cong and north and south vietnam. War was caused due to communism. -
Interstate Highway Act
Signed by Dwight D. Eisenhower. Made to span across the entire united states. Way to get aid across the nation quickly incase war were to break out in the land. -

First Artificial Earth satellite. It was launched by the soviet union. It had a low orbit. -
Bay of Pigs
US led expedition in Cuba. The US sent cuban exiles to Cuba to try and overthrow Castro. They failed miserably. -

Famous doctor and physician. He was the first person to develop a vaccine for polio. Polio was a deadly sickness back then affected a lot of kids. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
13 day standoff with USSR and US. USSR installed nuclear missiles in cuba which is close to america. Nothing happened to nukes were released. -

Rise of Tet Mau Than. North Vietnam and NLF was one of the largest military campaigns of the time. It happened in south vietnam. -
Gulf Of Tonkin Resolution
Also known as the USS Maddox Incident. It happened in southeast asian waters. It was the driving force in the US entrance to the Vietnam war. -
Moon Landing
Expedition launched by JFK. Part of space race. 3 US men landed on moon and planted american flag. -
Anti War Movement
Created during the Vietnam war. Was a social movement to stop putting us in wars. Many protests were started especially during the Vietnam war era. -
Vietnamization
Was policy of the Nixon administration. Was created as a program to help train and equip south Vietnam against the communist north. This was a stepping stone in entering the war. -
26th Amendment
Was used to stop discrimination of age as a reason to be not allowed to vote. 18 was the legal age to vote. Argument was that 18 was old enough. -
War Powers Act
This helps put a limitation on the president during times of war. After the vietnam war congress now has to approve of any action involving the military entering any form of war. This helps with checks and balances. -
Richard Nixon
37th US president. Only president to resign from office. And ended the war in Vietnam. -
Space Race
Race between U.S. and USSR to see who had the better space program. Had nothing to do with the cold war or any war it was just of race of who can get to space faster. This led to the moon landing mission that made the U.S. victorious. -
Cold War
War of threats. It was between USSR and US. Lasted 50+ years.
