The Soviet Union is officially born, after the first Russian Revolution. It is born out of communist ideas. -
Arms Race
The battle and race to develop more and more destructive bombs/weapons (hydrogen bomb started it) began. This was a mutually assured destruction and it sparked ban the bomb protests. Then, superpowers banned testing in space, water, and air (not underwater). -
Truman Doctorine
The Truman Doctorine created many containment bills (containment is the limiting of communism to countries where it already existed) and helped limit communism. -
Marshall Plan
A movement that allowed the US to send troops and supplies to Europe, helping limit and destroy the appeal of communism. -
Berlin Blockade/Airlift
The Berlin Blockade was built to prevent West Berlin citizens from getting allies into their terrifoty. East Berlin tried to limit Ally involvement. The Allies airlifted supplies over the blockade. -
Warsaw Pact
The Warsaw Pact was created, which was the Eastern Alliance attempting to unite Germany under a communist government so Soviets could gain complete control of Germany. -
Vietnam War
On this date, the Vietnam War started and the US turned its efforts towards fighting communism in Vietnam, aiding the South. Anti-communists seized the country so that electrions could not take place, preventing elections and causing a guerrilla war. -
Bay of Pigs Invasion
United States invaded the Bay of Pigs in Cuba, attempting to rally Cuban citizens to cause an uprising against their communist leader, Fidel Castro. -
Berlin Wall Beginning
The Berlin Wall was constructed to seperate East and West Berlin, the communists from the free people and to try to prevent the West Germans/Allies from leaving. -
