Brezhnev
Brezhnev was a loyal member to the communist party of the Soviet Union. His career as a Communist sky rocketed when he was under the power of Joe Stalin. By 1943 he quickly became a significant general and head of political commissars on the Ukraine Front. -
Dien Bien Phu
The USSR wanted to take over Vietnam and make it a communist government from its previous French colonials. The USA was trying to stop communism spreading, they really didn't want the USSR getting ahold of South east Asia. In 1953 the Viet Minh began a series of successful offences. It really was a fight between who could have south east Asia between the locals, the USSA and the US who were always on the side of the locals. -
Containment Policy
The policy started with diplomat George Keenan. He wanted to stop communism spreading to the east of Europe. After a potential threat from the Soviets to the Turkey and Greece. Truman came back at the Soviets with the Truman Doctrine. the Truman doctrine entailed that the United States would try and free the world from totalitarian dictatorships. Some of the strategies used to get rid of this was a containment policy and also nuclear deterrence. -
China Becomes Communist
The communist party of China was founded in 1921. It was created because the leaders of the party wanted to make china united again. the party gained victory in 1949 and intern turned China into a communist country. Some implications that came out of this that a plan to grow very large quantities of crops. The communists would always fight with the Nationals of China The Nationals were trying to bring China back to what it once was, they went about with the mind set from the past. -
Fidel Castro
Fidel Castro was the leader of the cuban people they were responsible for "the movement". This notorious group was only designed to try and combat the Batista government. His movement was a complete fail. He and his 150 supporters attacked the barracks in 1953. Fidel got nothing out of this attack, he was caught and prisoned for 15 years. Later in his life he got free education and health care all over Cuba, he was seen as hero. -
CIA vs KGB
President Truman setup a collection of secret information to undermine the USSR. the Central Intelligence Agency was created in 1947 by Harry S and Truman. The purpose for the CIA was to collect and evaluate evidence also to assist foreign intelligence to help the president of the US. The group was originally just supposed to be a sate security committee, it was also connected to the council of ministers. -
Berlin Wall
The Berlin wall was a barrier that divided East and West Berlin. It was constructed in 1961 by the German Democratic Republic party. The USA controlled West Berlin and the Soviets had East Berlin. When the wall was being constructed 2.6 million people went to the the west side of Berlin because the quality of life there was so much better than it was in the east with the soviets controlling who goes in and who comes out of east Berlin -
Checkpoint Charlie
With the separation of East and West Berlin there needed to be a place were the two power nations could meet and discuss business. It was also a place were important people and foreigners could cross the boarder safely. A rule was made that the only people allowed to cross the boarder at this spot was foreigners and diplomats. The place was soon nicknamed "the exchange point for spies" because when ever a trdae of spies went on it was always at this checkpoint.
