The Marshal Plan
Programme of economic aid that was offered by the USA to Europe. It was rejected by Stalin and Eastern Bloc countries that considered accepting aid as something to be reprimanded. In the end the aid was given only to countries in Western Europe. -
The Berlin Airlift
The U.S. and Britain wanted to establish a new currency into Berlin. This caused economic chaos in the Soviet Union . Soviets responded by cutting off all road, rail and canal links between West Germany and West Berlin. Marked the start of the Berlin Blockade.
During 11 months British planes supplied West Berlin with 1.5 million tons of supplies. It made Stalin look bad, he lifted the blockade. -

Hungarian Revolution
It began as a protest against Communist rule in Budapest,however it rapidly gathered a momentum and on 24th October Soviet tanks entered Budapest. The tanks left on the 28thand a new government was formed. This new givernment introduced democracy, freedom of speech and of religion to the country. -
The Vietnam War
Ho Chi Minh of North Vietnam decided to form a communist country since The French couldn't Vietnam anymore. U.S. normalized their relations with Ho. Chinese got involved. When it became obvious the Chinese were assisting Ho, aouthern gov. asked Allied countries for assistance. Allies agreed because they wanted to get rid of all communism. The U.S. was fighting against the communist North Vietnamese, the Soviets decided to back up communists. -
The Soviet Afghan War
The Soviets led the Afghans because they were communist and had resources. The rebels were backed by the U.S. to fight Soviets without declaring war on them. They got military training in Pakistan, China, and money from the U.S., United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, and other countries. Ended in 1989 under Soviet leader. -

It was announced that East Germans coulduse all border crossings to "permanently exit" the nation. Word soon spread and people gathered at the border crossings. -
END OF COLD WAR
Free elections ousted Communist regimes everywhere in eastern Europe. In late 1991 the Soviet Union itself dissolved into its component republics. With stunning speed, the Iron Curtain was lifted and the Cold War came to an end.
