The Marshall Plan was Trumans plan to aid Europe after World War 2. It provided economic assistance to Europe and attempted to make Demorcacy look like the good guys. -

Berlin Blockade
Soviet Union blockaded half of Berlin to prevent people from leaving to East Berlin. This was becasue East Berlin was recoving greatly thanks to the USA. This meant though that West Berlin couldn't get supplies and help to Wester Berlin. -
NATO Formed
NATO or the North Atlantic Treaty Orginization was formed to protect Europe and other countries from the USSR and the Spread of Communism. -
First Lightning Test
This was the first succcessful test of a nuclear weapon by the USSR. The explosion was aproximately the size of the Trinity test. -

Mao Zedong, takes over China and turns it into a Communist Regime. This is a big change as a world power now switches sides in against America and Capitalism. -
Beginning of Korean War
The Korean War begins as North Korea invades South Korea. The Leader of North Korea wanted to annex South Korea and unify it under a communist regime. America stepped it to assist South Korea in defending itself. -
Beginning of the Vietnam War
The Vietnam War was a war between North and South Vietnam. North Vietnam had succedded and become communist with the support of Russia and China. The US began sending supplies and trianing South Vietnam soilders preparing for war. This sparked the beginning of the Vietnam War. -

The Beginning of the Space Race between America and Russia began when Russia launched Sputnik the worlds first satilite to orbit. -
Test of Blue Desert Rat
The French tested there first nuclear weapon code named Blue Desert Rat. It detonated with the power of 4 Hiroshima bombs. This was a major win for the US as it meant another one of its allies gained a nuclear arsenal that they could use against the USSR. -
Berlin Wall
The USSR began contruction and built borders and sealed East Germany from West Germany. This prevent Western Germany owned by the USSR to go to East Germany helped by America. -
Cuban Missle Crisis
This was a 13 day stand off of the US and the USSR. As America found that the USSR had developed ballistic missles in Cuba. The US then realized that they had nuclear missles and warheads. This would make it impossible to warn or stop the missles once launched because of there short distance they had to fly. -
Signing of Partial Nuclear Test Ban Treaty
This treaty signed in Moscow banned most nuclear weapons tests. It prohibited the testing of nuclear weapons in Atmospere, Outer Spacem and Under water. the only thing really testable was underground tests. -
Project 596
Project 596 was China's first nuclear weapons test. Detonated at Lip Nur Test site. This saw the rise of China to a nuclear power. -
Apollo 11 Landing
The Apollo 11 was the spaceship that carried Neil Armstrong and his crew to the moon. This was a monumental task and was a huge blow to the USSR who had been winning the space race. This is usally marked as the end of the space race between the US and USSR. -
Publication of the Pentagon Papers
The Pentagon Papers was a series of papers describing the US's involevment in Vietnam from the end of WW2 to 1967. It was a top secret file that was leaked to the media. It exposed to the American public how long the US was involved in Vietnam and how the US was lying to the public about there involment. This further led to a distaste and hatred towards the Vietnam war. Which eventual force the President to withdraw from the conflict. -
Signing of SALT 1
SALT 1 was the Strategit Arms Limitation Talks Agreement. Its purpose was to propese limitations on the Arms race specifically on nuclear weapons and Ballistic Missles. The agreement limited the amount of Anti-Ballistic Missle aranngments. The ABM could be used defend against Ballistic Missles if the country decided to use a first strike. -
End of Vietnam War
The end of the Vietnam War saw America leave Vietnam. North Vietnam continued and unified Vietnam becoming a Communist Regime. -
SALT II is Signed
The second Strategic Arms Limitation Talks tried to reduce the amount of MIRV or Multiple Independent Re-entry Vechiles. It also outlawed a new type of land based ICBM launcher. -
Signing of INF Treaty
The INF or Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty was between the US and Soviet Union. This permantely forswore the use of intermidate range nuclear weapons. This was a major win in the battle to demilitirize. -
Fall of the Berlin Wall
The Berlin Wall was torn down and Berlin and germany was reunited for the first time in over 25 years.
