A wartime meeting of the heads of government of the United States (President Franklin D. Roosevelt), the United Kingdom (Prime Minister Winston Churchill), and the Soviet Union (General Secretary Joseph Stalin. The conferencediscussed Europes post-war reorganization. -

Truman Doctorine
This was part of President Harry Truman's speech, this policy stated that the U.S. would support Greece and Turkey with economic and military aid to prevent their falling into the Soviet sphere. -
Marshall Plan
This was an American program to aid Europe, the United States gave support to help rebuild European economies after World War II. This was intended to help stop the spread of Soviet communism. This would help repair the land, start up modern industry, etc. -
Russian Blockade of Berlin
This was a blockade on Berlin from the USSR. Its plan was to sufficate Berlin and restrict them from resources so Russia would have to supply Berlin. The USSR had the impression is they supplied it, they would have full control of it. -
Berlin Airlift
In responce to Russia's blockade of Berlin, US and UK flew into action. The United States Air Force and the United Kingdom's Royal Air Force would fly in supplies such as food, fuel, medical,etc. They flew over 200,000 flights in one year, This put end to the blockade. -
Rosenberg Spy Case
They were accused of giving American delicate information to the USSR. They convinced Ethel's brother to give them American top secrte data on nuclear weapons. They then gave the data to the USSR. They were bot found guilty and sentenced to death. -
Korean War
This was a war between the Republic of Korea (supported by the United States) and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (supported by the Soviet Union). The war was caused by the division of Korea brought upon from an agreement at the end of World War II. The 38th parellel splits them. In this present day the war is still in cease-fire (never officialy ended). -
Vietnam War
North Vietnam supported communist beliefs and South Vietnam supported the US and anit- communist nations. Known as the largest and most significant event in the Cold War. The US entered to prevent communist expansion. The war would eventually end with the US withdrawing from Vietnam due the the extremely high casualty rates. -
Hungarian Uprising
An uprising against the Peope's Republic of Hungary and its Soviet influences. Strengthen Soviet control over Central Europe. -
Nuclear Arms Race
The World sat in fear as the US and USSR began competing with each other to have the most advanced and powerful nuclear weapons. -
U-2 Crisis
This event started when a U-2 spy plane was shot down over USSR airspace. The US tried to cover it up untill the USSR presented them with photos of them having the plane and the pilot. The Russians studied the plane, this was a hard hit for the US. -
Bay of Pigs
The goal was to overthrow Castro and the communist government and establishment a non-communist government friendly to the United States. The Exiles and Americans invaded through the sea. The were attacked by resistance, halting their actions. They then tried air attacks but they also failed. They got beat back by resistance and retreated. The mission was a fail. -
Construction of the Berlin Wall
German Democratic Republic began contruction of the Western half of the Berlin Wall, and then moving down to Eastern Berlin. The wall completely serperated the two halfs of Berlin and it was nearly impossible to cross over the wall. -
Cuban Missle Crisis
The US found out the the USSR was supplying Cuba with missiles. This was a direct threat to the US because Cuba is only 90 miles off the coast of Florida. Having the USSR having missles so close made the US fear an attack so the US blockaded Cuba so nothing could come in. This sufficated the island and forced the Cubans to surrender their missles and stop gettiing missles from the USSR. -
Prague Spring
The period of political liberation in Czechoslovakia during Soviet control after World War II. It was an attempt to grant more rights to the citizens . -
Tet Offensive
Forces of the People's army fought against the Republic of Vietnam and the US. It was planned as a surprise attack to destroy millitary command centers during a period when no fighting was supposed to happen. -
Detente
Russian expression for "relaxation of tension". Used during peace time between the USSR and the United States. -
Fall of South Vietnam
This marked the end of the vietnam War and the beginning of Vietnam's transition back into a communist country. -
Perestroika
Political movement during the time of Gorbachev. Russian translation is "restructuring". Introduced during "glasnost". -
Reagan Doctrine
Introduced in the 1980's, this doctrine allowed the US to protect and aid all anti- communist parties against communist expansion. -
Collapse of Berlin Wall
Protestors form East and West Berlin began to chip away pieces of the wall. Eventually The riot bcame more intense and whole pieces of the wall began to fall. By 1990, the wall was demolished. -
End of USSR
The Cold War finally ends and the USSR empire dissolves because of Gorbachev's resigning as President.
