  • Battle of Gettysburg

    The most popular battle of the Civil War. Considered the turning point of the war. General Meade lost 70% of his troops but captured 4,000 Confederate soldiers.

    Lasted from December 1862 until July 1863. This battle split the Confederacy in two and the North now controlled the Mississippi River.

  • Surrender at Appomattox Courthouse

    The end of the Civil War. General Robert E. Lee surrendered to General Ulysses S. Grant. Lee said about the surrender terms Grant presented "You have been very generous to the South."
