Alice Waker was borm and later becomes one of the most respected African American poets/writer.

Brown VS.Board of Education of Topeka
Linda Brown was a young girl who wasn't allowed to go to an all-white school. The case soon went to the Surpreme Court. The Surpreme COurt soon ruled that segregation in public schools was unconstitutional.

Rosa Parks was arrested
Rosa Parks was arrested for not giving up her seat for a white man on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama. This action then started the Montgomery Bus Boycott, which was led by Dr. Martin Luther King jr.

"The Little Rock NIne"
Central High school in Little Rock Arkansas tried to admit none african american students into their school. WHile the students went to school, they were faced with pursecution. The persecution got so bad that eventually, the President had to send in the National Guard to escourt the nine students.

The Sit-in Movement
Four african American students from the Aricultural and Technoligy college in Greensburo NC, started a sit-in after they were refused service for their skin color. The students sat in the restuarant untill it closed. This sit-in led to many others across the southern states. (Social/Economic) -
The March On Washington
About 250,00 people (of both black and white races) participated in a March on Washington. This was led by Dr. Martin Luther King jr. who later gave his famouse "I Have a Dream" speech that following day.

The Civil Rights act
President Lyndon Johnson passed the Civil Rights act after President JFK was assasinated. This act was the most far reaching act of legislation supporting racial equality in AMerican History. It allowed African Americans to have more better education and more job oppertunties.

The voteing rights act banned literacy tests as a requirement for voteing. This enabled more African Americans to be qualified to vote.

Thurgood Marshall became the first African AMerican to become a Surpreme Court judge.

Dr. Martin Luther King jr. was assasinated
Dr. Martin Luther King jr was shot by James Earl Ray on his balcony in tis Tennasee home. Dr. King was a famouse civil rights leder who was known for preotesting peacefully instead of violently.

President Johnson signed the Fair Housing Act which allowed african american families to move into white neighborhoods.
