  • THE INVENTION OF THE MICROSCOPE

    THE INVENTION OF THE MICROSCOPE
Zacharias Janssen, along with his friend Hans, together made the compound microscope, which contributed to cell theory because it made it easier to be able to see things at a microscopic level. They were able to use this new found discovery to see the cells and organisms of plant cells, the microscope was invented in 1590 by his and his partners’ hands.
  • THE FIRST PLANT CELL SEEN BY MAN

THE FIRST PLANT CELL SEEN BY MAN
Robert Hooke was able to discover the cell itself in 1665, (also using a microscope) he saw a dead plant cell and remarked that it strangely resembled a cellula, a room of which was a living space for monks.
  • THE DISCOVERY OF THE FIRST SINGLE CELLED ORGANISM

THE DISCOVERY OF THE FIRST SINGLE CELLED ORGANISM
Anton van Leeuwenhoek was able to discover the very existence of a single celled organism in 1674. And using the microscope,( created by Zacharia Janssen nearly a century earlier) he was able to discover the single celled organism.
  • THE FIRST DEFINITION OF A CELL

THE FIRST DEFINITION OF A CELL
In 1838, Matthias Schleiden, a german botanist, was able to define the cell for the first time as a singular and basic unit of a plant structure.
  • THE REVISION OF THE DEFINITION OF THE CELL

THE REVISION OF THE DEFINITION OF THE CELL
Just like his partner Matthias Schleiden, Theodor Schwann was able to define the cell in quite the same way except proposed that it could not only be a plant cell structure but an animal structure as well.
  • THE DISCOVERY OF ORIGIN OF DISEASES IN OUR BODIES

THE DISCOVERY OF ORIGIN OF DISEASES IN OUR BODIES
In 1855, Rudolf Virchrow was responsible for the discovery of the origin of disease in our bodies. He proposed that diseases did not originate in our organs first, but rather in an individual cell, that if the disease was able to take control of a cell, it would then try to spread to other cells and capture them as well.
  • THE DISPROVING OF SPONTANEOUS GENERATION

    THE DISPROVING OF SPONTANEOUS GENERATION
In 1859, Louis Pasteur was the first one to officially disprove Spontaneous generation.(i.e, Rats being created out of straw.) He said that existing cells are only made due to pre-existing cells. His proof was an experiment that consisted of cells that would only grow in broth if air was exposed.
