The Fugitive Slave Act
The Fugitive Slave act was one of the five laws created in the Compromise of 1850. The Fugitive Slave Act states that any slaves that escaped from the south to the north must be returned to the slave owner in the south. It was very strict on anyone in the north that didn't turn in escaped slaves. The south got this law because the north wanted to eradicate the slave trade in Washington D.C.
