  • The Proclamation of 1763

    The Proclamation of 1763
    The Proclamation of 1763 states that no colonist could settle west of the Appalachian Mountains. It stated that everyone already there had to move east. They did that to try to repair relationships with the Native Americans there. In response the colonists were upset that they could not settle there. They thought that since the French were removed it was their right to be able to settle there.
  • The Sugar act of 1764

    The Sugar act of 1764
    The sugar act was passed by the parliament. It was used to pay all of their debts from the French and Indian War. It was also used to pay for all of the expenses of the colonies and the new acquired territory. This act increased the duties on all imported goods such as molasses,sugar,textiles,and dye.
  • The Stamp act of 1764

    The Stamp act of 1764
    The Stamp act was passed by parliament. It was the first direct tax on the colonies in America. It was used to pay for the British troops in the colonies. The stamp act taxed printed items like newspapers,pamphlets,bills,dice, playing cards,etc. The colonists would not pay taxes to their own legislatures. They would pay their taxes to the British. The colonists were very upset by this act. They united together and were led by the people most affected by it like land owners,lawyers,merchants,etc.
  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
    The English parliament passed the Townshend Revenue Act. This would create a new set of taxes on the colonists. This was so they could afford to protect the American colonies and govern them. The act also established colonial custom commissioners. The items that were taxed were imports like paper,glass,tea,paints,and lead. In response to the new taxes the colonists discouraged the purchasing of the taxed imports.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre
    The Boston massacre occurred when a group of English soldiers were guarding the Boston Customs House. There was a crowd around them that was harassing them verbally and physically. Once the soldiers got fed up they shot into the crowd. They killed 3 men and injured 8. The Boston massacre was not really a massacre. It was just advertised as one to make the colonists dislike the British.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party
    The Boston Tea Party occurred when a group of men who called themselves "The Sons of Liberty" were furious about the "taxation without representation". So,they went to the Boston harbor dressed up as Mohawk Indians.They boarded 3 ships and dumped 45 tons of tea into the Boston Harbor. The English responded by taxing more things.
  • The Intolerable Acts

    The Intolerable Acts
    The Intolerable Acts (or sometimes known as the Coercive Acts) is a response to the Boston Tea Party. It was sponsored by the British prime Minister Lord North. It has 5 laws that "stopped" the colonists from doing things like "The Boston Tea Party" again. It did not work very well. In response the colonists were angry and started to unify against the British.
  • The Boston Port Act

    The Boston Port Act
    The Boston Port Act closed off the Boston Port from the colonists until the price of all of the tea dumped was repaid. They also decided to move the capitol of Massachusetts to Salem and changed the entry port of Massachusetts to Marblehead. The colonists were furious.
  • The Quebec Act

    The Quebec Act
    The Quebec Act was passed so that there was civil government and religious freedom to all of the Catholics. This act upset the colonists because they protested/really wanted to have to have religious freedoms and civil government. This act was mainly to get back at the colonists and to be petty. The colonists soon realized that the control the British had in Canada and they feared it would spread to them.

    The Massachusetts Regulating Act
    The Massachusetts Regulating Act was made to stop the colonists from attempting to do things against the British. In this act it stated that all of the law enforcement officers had to be appointed by the royal governor. It also states that no town meeting could be held without the approval of the royal governor. In response to that the colonists were mad. They said it went against the colonial government standards. This act was a huge step to the start of the American Revolution.
  • Impartial Administration of Justice Act

    Impartial Administration of Justice Act
    The Impartial Administration of Justice Act stated that a trial could be moved to another colony by the royal governor if he felt that the juries would not judge a case fairly. This act basically was if the governor feared that the jury would side with a case that would be bad for the British. If that happened he would move it to another colony. The colonists were mad and fed up with the British after this.
  • The Quartering Act

    The Quartering Act
    The Quartering act allowed British troops to stay in the colonists' homes or empty buildings if there were no more barracks left. The colonists had to provide food,drink,transportation,a bed,and fuel to the soldiers. In response to this the colonists were furious. They did not like that the foreign soldiers were in their homes.
