    Date(s): 1754-1763 Description: The French and Indian War was apart of a larger global conflict called the Seven Years War. The French and British had the most territorial disputes within North America during this war. Both countries wanted access to the profitable fur trade business and the cheap fertile land west of the Appalachian Mountains.

    The British Parliament passed the Sugar Act in 1764 in order to help pay for their debt from the French and Indian War as well as to pay for the troops guarding the Proclamation Line of 1763. It forced the colonists to pay a 3 cent tax on goods like sugar, coffee, indigo and certain kinds of alcohol. The colonists were not happy with this law because they had no say in parliament. The slogan “No Taxation without Representation” became popular in the colonies.

The Stamp Act required that a stamp purchased by the British government had to be placed on all important documents like court papers, newspapers and even playing cards.     :On March 5 1770 there was a violent confrontation between the British soldiers and the colonists in Boston.The british soldiers were getting mocked and abused by the colonists. The colonists were trying to provoke the British and it worked. The British ended up shooting because a colonist from behind said “fire, fire if you dare”. Five colonists died in the Boston Massacre.

    :This new law was not designed to raise taxes in the colonies. The tea act was created to help the East India Company. The colonists were only able to buy their tea.They did this because there was 18 million pounds of tea unsold that they had to sell. It made the East India company a monopoly.

    A few of the colonists dressed up as indians and went on the ships.They dressed up so no one would know it was them.Specifically it was the sons of liberty that went onto the ships.When the got on the ships they through the boxs of the tea into the ocean .New york left the tea on the docks to rot.They were forced to buy the tea so they dumped the tea into the ocean.They dumped 340 crates of tea into the water.

    The british and the colonists faced of against each other in two of the first battles of the American Revolution .It started in lexington then the second one in concord.The british troops were looking for rebel leaders. The first battle the colonists lost but the second battle they won.They ambushed the british soldiers ,8 died in the battle and 5 were wounded.They chased the british out of town.

The English Parliament passed this act to cover costs of the French and Indian War, as well as to show that they still had power over the colonies. The colonists were outraged with this act so they held public demonstrations, boycotted products and smuggled in goods. Parliament eventually decided to repeal this act because of colonial protests.
