Sugar Act
The Sugar Act was the first direct tax on the colonists. The act said that the prices on molasses and syrups would be raised. The British parliament passed this so they could gain back the money they lost from the war. -
Quartering Act
The Quartering Act said "to quarter and billet the officers and solider's in his Majesty's service, in the barracks provided by the colonies. Which means the colonists had to give the solider's shelter and food. The act was like a tax but all they had to do is give the soldiers stationed, food, a bed, water, and more. -
The Stamp Act
Prime Minister George Grenville heard complaints about the Sugar Act and wanted to take a different approach on the Stamp Act. It was the first and the only tax that the colonists had to pay individually and by themselves. Stamp duties on legal papers, cards, dice, and more. -
The Townshend Act
The Townshend Act was passed to try to stop smuggling between the colonies. The act allowed the British soldiers stationed in the colonies to try to stop the smuggling between the colonies. British
Chancellor of the Exchequer agreed that taxes internally, would be considered as illegal. To discuss the annoyance the Parliament passed the Townshend Act. -
The Tea Act
The Tea Act was passed to get the East India Company more money. The act says "to export such tea to any of the British colonies in America, discharged from the payment of any customs." Which means they were trying to stop people from smuggling in tea without having to pay the tax. -
Boston Port Act
King George 3rd went to Britain and realized that the British was starting to lose control of the 13 colonies, they decided to punish the 13 colonies with the Boston Port Act. The Boston Port Act was passed so nobody was permitted to ship/export anything from Boston, Massachusetts. The colonists were not allowed to ship anything and make any money on it. -
Massachusetts Government Act and the Administration of Justice Act
These acts were passed to be used as a punishment to try to control the colonies. The acts said that none of the government officials could pass judgement as a crime. The British were the only ones able to say if the judgement was a crime or not. -
Quebec Act
The Quebec Act impacted the British citizens living in the province of Quebec. The Quebec Act was passed to state claim on cell of North America. The act said all the territories, islands, and countries in North America belonged to the British.
