February Revolution
The February, or the March, Revolution, happened because WWI had left and was still leaving heavy casualties and taking a lot of money, there was a shortage of food, and the people of Russia were fed up with the ineffectiveness of Nicholas II and the current government. There were many riots and when the army went in to calm down them down, the soldiers joined in.

Provisional Government
Provisional Government EstablishedThe Provisional Government was a temporary 12-man executive led by a man named Alexander Kerensky. This government faced many difficult problems. It tried to take over Russia in an un-revolutionary way. The Provisional government's big mistake was to carry on the war. It showed that it wasn't a good government because it had to face the Bolshevik Communists, who were working through the soviets. -
Abdication of Nicholas II
The government was failing, there were a ton of riots and strikes breaking out, and Russia was going into a civil war. So at the End of the February Revolution, Tsar Nicholas II decided to abdicate. Nicholas then offered for his brother, Grand Duke Michael, to take the throne. But Michael refused the throne until the people had voted for him through a constitutional monarchy.

Provisional Government and the Bolshevik Party
Provisional Governmaent and BolsheviksWith Vladamir Lenin at the head of the bolsheviks, the provisional government was struggling to stay the stronghold of Russia. Soon in October the provisional government was overthrown by the Bolsheviks without much difficulty. -
Soviets take over the Winter Palace
Winter PalaceLeon Trotsky now urged the overthrow of the Provisional Government. Lenin agreed and on the evening of 24th October, 1917, orders were given for the Bolsheviks began to occupy the railway stations, the telephone exchange and the State Bank. The following day the Red Guards surrounded the Winter Palace. At 9 p.m. the Aurora and the Peter and Paul fortress started to open fire on the Winter Palace. Bolsheviks Take a Vote
The BolsheviksThe Bolshevik party had taken a vote that it was time for an uprising. The Petrograd workers were a part of this revolt as well. The voters who were for over throwing the goverment made the statement "an armed uprising is inevitable, and that time for is fully ripe", meaning an armed force among the people against the government could not be avoided and that it, at the time, was the perfect time to rebel against the government. -
End of World War I
WWI Coming to the end of WWI was a big role in Russian history. It left pieces of Russia to peices, which made it easier to have dictators or dictator-like governments come in and take over. The provisional government and the bolsheviks are great examples of overtaking governments. -
Bolshevic Kill The Romanov Family
Killing of the RomanovsVideo Nicholas Romanov was still the legitament ruler in Russia while the the Bolshevik revolution was happening. Lenin the communist war head had sent the Romanov family right outside St. Petersburg so they wouldnt get hurt. Later on on July 17th, 1918Lenin sent the family to the basement of the house because it would be more "protective". There a group of red soldiers murdered the whole family so Lenin could rise in power. -
Stalin Takes Over After Lenin's Death
StalinAfter Lenin's death, Joseph Stalin took control. During Lenin's control over the Bolsheviks and Russia, Stalin served as General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union's Central Committee. After Lenin died, Stalin sought out more power. He used his power to gradually get rid of all other communist groups in the communist party.
