Nedjelko Cabrinovic attempted to assassinate Archduke Franz Ferdinand and Sophie by throwing a bomb at their car. The bomb rolled off the back of the car and injured an officer.

After the speech, Franz Ferdinand and Sophie went to visit the injured officer at the hospital. On the way the driver took a wrong turn, passing Gavrilo Princip. Gavrilo seized his opportunity and fired two shots into the car killing Franz Ferdinand and Sophie.
