The American Revolution

  • Navigation Acts

    Navigation Acts
The Navigation Acts began in October of 1651. They were a series of acts that restricted the trade of the colonies.
The colonists were not angry about this because the acts didn’t impact them much.
The Navigation Acts is an example of distrust because the colonists still believe they are british citizens but don’t realize England is limiting their rights.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
The Proclamation of 1763 banned settlement west of the Appalachian mountains in order to avoid problems with Native Americans.
The colonists didn’t pay much attention to it and continued to move west because it was hard for England to enforce the proclamation.
I think this is an example of distrust and unity because the english were restricting them again and the colonists united to move on to different land.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
The Sugar Act was a law that reduced the tax on sugar but England would send people over to enforce the Navigation Acts more by catching smugglers and taking them to England to go to court.
The colonists didn’t like this and thought this took away their right of no taxation without representation.
The Sugar Act represents differences and distrust because England is taking their rights and they are having more disagreements with the colonists.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was a tax on almost everything that was printed.

The colonists were very angry to hear this because of no taxation without representation.
This is an example of distrust and unity because once again England was taxing the colonies without representation which their right of no taxation without representation was being violated and the colonists were uniting in order to boycott.
  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
The Quartering act was placed to provide british soldiers with housing, food, and other accommodations.

The colonists reacted negatively to this because they were abusing their privacy.
The Quartering Act is an example of distrust because the british soldiers are taking away the privacy of the colonists.
  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
The Townshend Acts were taxes on a number of things including tea, lead, glass, paper, etc that was brought into the colonies.
The colonists’ reaction was anger and they began the boycotts.
This is an example of distrust and unity because the colonists had to unite in order to boycott and they were getting taxed once again without representation.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre was when soldiers shot at the colonists who were crowded around them. In the end, five colonists ended up dead.

The colonists believed that the soldiers had committed murder and were very angered about this.
The Boston Massacre is an example of violence because it was violence against people both the soldiers and colonists.
  • Boston Tea Party

The Boston Massacre was when soldiers shot at the colonists who were crowded around them. In the end, five colonists ended up dead.

The colonists believed that the soldiers had committed murder and were very angered about this.

  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
The Intolerable Acts was a group of laws passed meant to punish the colonists for the Boston Tea Party.
The colonists were angered at this and prepared for war as the tension grew.
This is an example of distrust and unity because England keeps on punishing the colonists so the colonists are uniting for war.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
Lexington and Concord is what began the American Revolution.
The colonists were very joyful because this was a big victory for them and it boosted their confidence for the rest of the war.
This is an example of violence and unity because it shows how the colonists united to defeat the british and it was act of violence against people.
