The American Revolution

  • THE NAVIGATION ACTS

    THE NAVIGATION ACTS
England saw the colonists as an economic threat so they passed an amount of laws not allowing the colonists to trade unless they followed certain regulations.
This is an act of distrust becuasae the British didn't trust the colonists not to over ride them econmically so they forced the colonists to follow a set of regulations to follow.
  • PROCLAMATION OF 1763

    PROCLAMATION OF 1763
The proclamation was delivered by King George III. They forbade all settlements past a line drawn in the Appalachian Mountains. The colonists were angry and objected because they had already been given land grants telling them they could have that land.
This is an act of distrust because the colonists were granted the land but then it was taken away from them by the king.
  • SUGAR ACT

    SUGAR ACT
Colonial merchants were required to pay a tax on sugar and molasses of six pence per gallon on the imports. This act increased the colonists concerns about what the British Parliament was doing and helped more people join the movement that became the American Revolution.
This is a act of distrust but also leads into unitly becuase the british treated them unfairly but it brought more colonists together to rebel.
  • STAMP ACT

    STAMP ACT
The British Parliament put a tax on newspapers and legal and commercial documents. The colonists opposed this tax and it was later repealed. The act led more colonists to not trust British Parliament. Making this an act of distrust between the British and colonists.
  • QUARTERING ACT

    QUARTERING ACT
This act required the colonies to house British soldiers in barracks that the colonies would provide. If there wasn't enough housing in the barracks, then local people had to accommodate the soldiers in their homes. The colonists were not happy that they were forced to do something. They would rather have been asked and then given their consent.
This is an act of difference I think becuase the colonists was the consent factor and the british thought they didn't need it.
  • TOWNSHEND ACTS

    TOWNSHEND ACTS
These acts imposed taxes on glass, lead, paper, and tea that was imported into the colonies. Colonists viewed it as an abuse of power by the British Parliament.
This may be a act of distrust between the colonists and the British becuase the colonists thought they were equal to the citizens but were getting taxed more.
  • BOSTON MASSACRE

    BOSTON MASSACRE
The colonists attacked the Boston soldiers with clubs and threw iceballs at them. The soldiers shot back and killed six colonists. The colonists were very angry about it.
This was an act of violence on both sides, the colonists attacked the British soliders and the soliders acting in self defence killed 6 colonists.
  • BOSTON TEA PARTY

    BOSTON TEA PARTY
was a political protest by the Sons of Liberty in Boston. Some dressed as American Indians, destroyed an entire boat load of tea in protest of the Tea Act. They boarded the ships and threw the boxes of tea into Boston Harbor, ruining it all. The colonists were so angry about the Tea Act that they came together as an act of unity to reble against British goverment.
  • INTOLERABLE ACTS

    INTOLERABLE ACTS
This was put in place to punish the colonists for the Boston tea party. Three major acts were put in place and the colonists reacted angry.
I believe this is an act of differences between the colonists and the British goverment on taxes as a main one but also many more just adding to the tension.
  • LEXINGTON AND CONCORD

    LEXINGTON AND CONCORD
The first military steps into the American Revolution. The british marched from Concord to lextington. As they marched Paul Revere and others went around screaming "THE BRITISH ARE COMING". The british strated out strong but then ended up retreting.
This was an act of violence, people were hurt and it was an open act of fighting.
