Salutary Neglect

The French and Indian War was the North American conflict that was part of a larger imperial conflict between Great Britain and France known as the Seven Years’ War. It ended with the Treaty of Paris. -
Royal Proclamation of 1763
The Royal Proclamation of 1763 forbid settlers from going past a certain line, this was done to protect Native territory. -
Sugar Act Passed
The Sugar act was a heavy tax on imported sweets and sugars. -
The Stamp Act
This was a direct tax requiring the colonists to pay tax on transport and shipping -
The Quartering Act
This act made it so if a British soldier needed quartering then an American colonist had to give it to him. -
Stamp Act Congress
The first gathering of elected representatives from all colonies to protest British influence in the colonies. They humbly stated that Parliament had a right to create laws, but not for these taxes. -
Declaratory Act
Stated that Parliament had the same power in the Americas as it had in Great Britain, also repealed the Stamp Act. -
The Boston Massacre
Many settlers were rioting around a group of Redcoats, one of the Redcoats were struck and they fired. Other Redcoats fired and five settlers were killing. Although only five people died it was called a massacre as a propaganda technique. -
Committee's of Correspondence
These were "shadow governments." They were basically inside people for the British, they learned of American colonist's moves and actions and reported to the Redcoats. -
Tea Act
An act to allow a drawback of the duties of customs on the exportation of tea or oil to any of his Majesty's colonies or plantations in America -
The Boston Tea Party.
The Boston Tea Party was an event that occured when several colonists dressed as Indian ship workers threw hundreds of barrels of tea overboard, wasting a lot of British money and resources. -
Intolerable Acts begin
The intolerable acts were a variety of acts passed over a span of time that violated Colonial rights. -
The Gaspee Incident
The Gaspee was a British ship used to transport goods. It was attacked, looted, and burned by a group of colonists. -
First Continental Congress
The First Continental Congress consisted of 56 delegates from 12 colonies (Georgia did not send reps).Their main purpose was assessing and dealing with the situation with the British. Politically and in a military sense. -
Battles of Lexington and Concord
These were the first military engagements of the American revolutionary war. They were the marker of when armed warfare began between the troops. -
Townshend Acts.
A series of acts passed throughout 1777 to raise revenue in order to pay judges and governors to stay loyal to Great Britain.
