Parliament implemented the stamp act on America. The stamp act was a tax on certain papers that required a stamp to show that taxes were paid to Britain. They wanted as much money as possible from America since the colonists didn’t really have a say. -

The second continental congress approved the Declaration of Independence. This was the beginning of the American revolution. -

General Cornwallis was forced to surrender to American and French forces. England decided to end the war. -

The first articles or confederation were written but didn’t have a strong enough central government to deal with the nation’s problems. -
Formal Freedom
The treaty of Paris officially recognized America as independent. It also gave western territories from the Appalachians to the Mississippi to Americans. -
A New Government
Delegates met at the constitutional convention to revise the articles of confederation. It was decided to start a completely new government.
