The british had put new taxation on a lot of different products and the colonists did not like this. The colonists elected representatives. -
The Boston Massacre
The colonists were unhappy with the ammount of taxes they had so they protested by throwing rocks at the british soldiers. "The shot heard round' the world" is what made the british soldiers open fire. -

Some colonist, men dressed up in Native American clothes and dumped a butt load of tea into the Boston Harbor in protest of taxes. -
Lexington and Concord
The British were plannig to capture colonist leaders and take gunpowder in the next town. The plan was found out in the colonies and Paul Revere rode through towns letting it be known. Also Paul Revere likely did not say "the British are coming" because the colonists still thought of themselves as british. so it would have been confusing. He most likely said "the Regulars are coming!!"
