The Treaty of Paris
This treaty ended the French and Indian War. France gives up most of its territories in North America to Great Britain, but Louisiana west of the Mississippi River is given to Spain. -
King George's Royal Proclamation of 1763
This proclamation established administration in territories given up by France to prevent further violence between settlers and Native Americans, the Proclamation sets a western boundary on the American colonies. -
The Sugar Act
Also known as the American Revenue Act or the American Duties Act, this act placed a tax on foreign molasses, foreign coffee, sugar, pimiento and select wines. -
The Stamp Act
This act, created by the Bristish, put a tax on all printed material used by the colonist, such as newspapers, magazines, and even playing cards. -
The Quartering Act
This act required colonist to house and care for British troops. -
The Boston Massacre
British Army soldiers killed five civilian men and injured six others. This was the first battle of the Revolutionary War. British troops in the Massachusetts Bay Colony were there to stop protests against the Townshend Acts and keep order, but instead they provoked outrage. -
The Tea Act
This act placed a tax on tea in the colonies. This act was to pay for the tea of the finicaially troubled Britian. -
The Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party was a political protest by the Sons of Liberty in Boston. They destroyed the tea by throwing it into the Boston harbor, after officials in Boston refused to return three shiploads of taxed tea to Britian. -
Declaration of Independence
This Declaration announced that the thirteen American colonies, then at war with Great Britain, became independent states, and were no longer a part of the British Empire. The original draft of the Declaration was written by Thomas Jefferson, who later became the third president of the United States. -
Treaty of Pairs
This treaty eneded the American Revolutionary War between Britian, and the United States of America.
