The Decleration of Independence declared freedom from Great Britain. In it, it stated the rights of citizens. 13th Amendment ratified
The 13th amendment was the amendment abolishing slavery. Former slaves could now dream a dream and have the chance to fulfill it.

Immigration Act
In 1907 immigration hit a peak and it had to be controlled. An act was passed that allowed few immigrants. 19th Amendment was ratified
Because the United States was a democracry, everybody should have the right to vote. However for women, they had very limited rights and voting certainly was not one of them. Great Depression
In 1929 the stock market crashed. With this many businesses failed and many jobs were lost. The unemplyment rate was high and people had trouble providing for their families. With this many Americans realized they would do whatever it took to provide for their family and dreamed of working hard for money. New Deal
The New Deal was President Franklin Delano Roosevelts way of reforming the country, He passed act after act trying to get people working again and the economy back on track. Social Security Act
The Social Security Act was a way of ensuring peoples income when they retired or became disabled. With this act, the taxes that were payed from their income now went into a fund which would help them later in life. In 1941 Roosevelt gave a state of the union address which changed history. In it he told his fellow Americans that it was time to focus on the Americans themselves and not what is going on around them. With the first bank credit card, Americans could buy stuff and not have to be able to pay for it at that moment. They could have what they wanted and buy it without having the money.
