On October 5, Wilbur Wright took flight. He circled the field 30 times in just 39 minutes. The distance totaled 24 1/2 miles. At this point, the Wright brothers had a "practical airplane" and began seeking a consumer. -

First Public Flight
On September 3, 1908 Orville made the first public flight at Fort Myer in Virginia. The airplane crashed, killing passenger Lieutenant Thomas Selfridge. Orville survived. -
US Army Accepts Airplane
On August 2, 1909, the United States Army accepted its first airplane from the Wrights brothers. -

Orville Wright Died
On January 30, 1948 Orville Wright died in Dayton, Ohio. He was 76.
