IBM Model 5150 is created
IBM released its first PC, which would greatly influence an already growing demand for PCs. What set the IBM PC apart was the fact that their PC was built without using components made from a single company. By doing so, not only were IBM's PCs produced much faster than anticipated, but support for the PC would continue to grow as other companies wanted to add their own software and components into the 5150. PCs were already gaining traction in America, but IBM's PC sparked that growth. -
CDs are invented
Sony and Phillips collaborated and created the CD, or Compact Disc which was only for storing audio. However, the CD-ROM would branch off of the CD which would be able to store data. -
Flash Memory is created
Fujio Masuoka, while working under Toshiba, invents flash memory. Flash memory is used to transfer data between computers and digital devices, such as a USB memory stick. Flash memory gave us the ability to digitally erase and reprogram data swiftly and cost efficiently, which is why we can easily reuse memory cards and USB sticks. -
Nintendo Famicom System (NES) is released
Household gaming in America was a lot different back then when compared to now. Prior to the release of the Famicom, Americans didn't have much in terms of functional games. Nintendo changed all that when they brought over the Famicom, redubbed as the NES in America, with 18 games at launch including the Super Mario Bros. Needless to say, the gaming industry has only grown since then. -
Pixar is founded
Pixar was originally another company created in 1979 called the Special Effects Computer Group, and was actually part of Lucasfilms. Steve Jobs then bought the company in 1986 and rebranded them as Pixar. We know Pixar today mainly from the Disney movies that have been made with them, such as Toy Story, however Pixar has actually been around for quite some time.
