    The temperance movement was when people started to support the limiting of alcohol. It started becoming popular in 1820, and developed over the next 100 years.

    The 18th amendment is finally ratified due to the temperance movement. It outlawed producing, transporting, and distributing alcohol. It is signed by president Woodrow Wilson in hopes of cutting down on crime.

    Organized crime increases

    Gangs and gangsters develop to make and sell alcohol illegally. People begin to make alcohol in their homes, become pharmacists to bootleg, and go to church to drink wine.

    Speakeasies open all over American

    Speakeasies, or secret bars open for anyone to come and listen to jazz, gamble, dance, and most importantly, drink alcohol, in secret are all over America by now.

    Economy declines

    With alcohol becoming illegal to sell, make, and transport alcohol, the government no longer receives taxes from people buying and shipping it, in addition to many people losing jobs.
  • 18th amendment is put into action

    People were given 1 year to rid their homes and businesses of alcohol before getting any consequences for it.
  • 21st amendment is ratified

    The 21st amendment is ratified and cancels out the 18th amendment.
