Virginia was founded.
Virginia became the first permanent English Colony in North America. The first colonists who came search for gold. -
Massachusetts was founded.
The puritans were English colonists who settled in New England in the 1600's. These settlers wanted to form communities where they could follow the rules of the bible and serve there God. -
New York was founded.
Peter Stuyvesant became governor of New Netherland . He was a harsh man. -
Maryland was founded.
In 1649 the Maryland government passed the Toleration Act.The Toleration Act was the first law in North America to promise that all Christians could worship freely. -
New Hampshire was founded.
Other colonists from Massachusetts Bay moved north and settled the area that became New Hampshire and Maine. Although it started as one colony, they later became two. -
North Carolina was founded.
The Northern part of Carolina had few harbors and not as good for farming. It grew more slowly than the south. -
South Carolina was founded.
The Southern part area had good farming and good harbors.Planters built rice plantation in the tide water. -
New Jersey was founded.
The East Jersey and West Jersey joined to form New Jersey. The proprietors of New York and New Jersey all wanted to make money from there colonies. -
Georgia was founded.
England's king George II started another colony to keep the Spanish and France away from South Carolina. He gave this land to James Oglethorpe an England law maker and army officer.
