-He wanted to present petitiosn for a greater self-government for Texas.
-The Mexican President, Antonua Lopez de Santa Anna, saw the perition as a rebellion, and imprisoned Austin. -
The Battle of The Alamo
- Battle between Mexico and Texans.
- Most of the Americans soldiers died in this battle, it was a great lost for the Americans.

- The last bettle of the Texas Revolution.
- Caputered the Santa Anna and put him into a prison of war, and three weeks later he singed the peace treatry, that gave Texas to the Americans.

- Recognized Texas Independence.
- It also insured that Santa Anna would be kept alive.

General Taylor Marches Troops Across Rio Grande
-Fallows the orders of President James Polk.
-He marched them across the Rio Grande to fight agaisn the Mexican army. -
Slidell's Rejection
-John Slidell traveled to Mexico to negotiate the purchase of California.
-Mexico refused to recieve him and in result Presedent James Polk ordered General Zachary Taylor to march his army onto the edge of the Rio Grande. Mexico saw this as aggression to their rights. -
U.S. Annexes Texas
-The United States recognize Texas as part of it.
-It became the 28th state. -
U.S. declares war on Mexico
-US declares war because of Mexicos intrussion.
-The American Army was led by General Zachary Taylor. -
Gold Discovered at Sutter's Mill, California
-James Marshall was yhe first person to discover gold in the mill.
-The news spread west and people moved or travel to California to get their own gold. -
Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo Ends War With Mexico
-Mexico agreed to the Texas border.
-They also gave California and New Mexico to the US. -
Zachary Taylor Elected President
-He was part of the whig party.
-He became the second snd last whig to be elected before the party ended.
-Happend sometime in November. -
California Applies for Statehood
-Where it should be a state or not became a big contraversy in congress.
-Because of the issue of slavery; the Notherners and Southerners would desagree with each other on most things. -
Gasden Purchase
-It established the borders of the lower 48 States.
-Mexico sould the29,670 square-miles of land to the US. Now known as part of New Mexico and Arizona.
