    Texas Mission With San Antonio de Valero and Secularization

    Govenor manual Munoz received order to suppression of the San Antonio de Valero. With the land that was leftover it was used by the community to attract others, like the Adaesanos and other San Antionio families. In 1793 the San Antonio de Valero became a civilian community and became part of San Fernando Parish. 04/10/1794,Commandant General Pedro Nava Issued secularization of all missions over 10 years. To address complaints of ranchers, farmers etc. and to reduce the number of missions. 88-89
  • Louisiana Purchase

    Louisiana Purchase
    Napoleon forced Spain to cede Louisianan as part of his plan for the French empire in North America. The Spanish fought for the expansion of the Mississippi, but with the US expansionism as a dangerous successor . The United States purchased “Louisiana” from Napoleon Bonaparte in 1803 for $15 million. While Spain and the US almost came over the US claims everything east of the Rio Grande part in the Louisianan Purchase. US claim that Texas was part of the Louisiana territory. (pg. 102,103, 106)

    Neutral Ground
    In March, President Jefferson responded by ordering US troops to chase out the Spanish detachment that Governor Cordero has ordered.In respond Texas governor ordered the militia to reinforce Nacogdoches.To calm the situation Commandant General Nemecio Salcedo proposed a neutral ground between Nacogdoches and the Sabine River. Wilkinson and Herrera laid the groundwork and Neutral Ground beamed part of Louisiana Purchase under the Adams- Onis Treaty. (pg. 106-107)

    Gutierrez de Lara Expedition begins with Invasion

    Gutierrez de Lara led expedition crossing the Sabine River, and arrived in Nacogdoches to find the local troops were unwilling fight. Discovering that the Governor Salcedo had march to the Guadalupe River to obstruct their advances Gutierrez and Magee turned southeast to La Bahia. Royalist made last stand 9 miles out of San Antonio and lost 1,200 men in the Battle of Rosillo. In April the Republican army of the North were under the command of Gutierez and Samuel Kemper, took San Antonio. (pg120)
  • The Battle of Three Trees

    The Battle of Three Trees
    While the Cocos were forced to move south by the migrant tribes, the Karankawa tribes faced attacks from Lipans, Comanches and other outsiders. Skirmishes between Jean Lafitte and Cocos on Galveston Island led to the battle where 30 Karankawas were killed and the rest went across the bay, which ended the presence of Indian in Galveston. Cujanes who converted to Christianity and settled at Mission Refugio abandoned station after the Lipans and Comanches riads. (pg.124-125)

    What was known as the first Long expedition began June 1819 when advance party of 120 men crossed Sabine. The Document drafted by Long and a group of Angelo American supporters, presumed to declare that "citizens of Texas have longed indulged the hope, in the adjustment boundaries of the Spanish possessions in America, and the territories of the US should be included in the limits." The new governments first acts was to allow each solider in the army 6,400 acres as compensation. (pg.128)

    Stephen F Austin Arrives in Texas
    In Natchitoches, Louisiana a delegation by Erasmo Seguin met with Stephen F Austin and escorted him across the Sabine into Spanish Texas, to meet his father when he died in Missouri. Austin found the Anglo colony, as he was moving along he made note of the wildlife and fertile soil. Bound to San Antonio he was hoping to carry out his fathers dream. With the news of Texas not being part of Mexico he work toward the vision of the Anglo American colony, reshaped and redefend Texas. (pg. 134)
  • Mexico's Independence

    Many criollos, lost faith of the Spanish Government, merely symbolized the royalist. One of the royalist officer Agustin de Iturbide, sent into the field to crush rebel Vincent Guerrero, but instead agreed with him for the separation of Mexico from Spain.
