Fredonia Rebellion
Fredonian Rebellion, 1826–27, in Texas history, a premature attempt to make Texas independent from Mexico. Two Americans, Haden Edwards and his brother, had undertaken to make settlements on a land grant in E Texas around Nacogdoches, where there were already Mexican settlers, American squatters, and Cherokee. Haden Edwards tried to oust those settlers who could not show clear title, and the resultant trouble led the Mexican government to revoke his charter. The impetuous Edwards decided. -
Mier y Teran Report/ Law of April 6th
After the Fredonian Rebellion, the Mexican government sent General Manuel Mier y Terán, A well respected commander, to go and investigate what was happening. He spent about a year investigating and reporting his findings. He was concerned about the amount of Anglo colonists. He reported that the ratio of Anglos to Mexicans was 10 to 1. This ratio was probably not exactly correct, but there were a lot more Anglos then Mexicans, mostly in east Texas. -
Turtle bayou Resolutions
In June 1832, a group of Anglo-American settlers staged a rebellion against Mexican rule in the town of Anahuac, near Galveston. John Davis Bradburn, a Virginia-born soldier of fortune who had become a lieutenant commander in the Mexican army, had been appointed by Mexico to establish the town two years earlier in order to collect tariffs and duties, stop smuggling, and bring unruly Texans under Mexican law. -
Battle of velasco
In an armed prelude to the Texas Revolution, the Battle of Velasco marked the first bloodshed in the then deteriorating relations between Texas and Mexico.In the conflict, Domingo de Ugartechea, the Mexican commander in charge of a fort at the town of Velasco, attempted to block attempts by the Texans to transport a cannon for possible use against Mexican forces at nearby Anahuac. -
