Christopher Columbus set sail from Spain to find Asia In 1492. Instead of finding Asia, he found what we know as the Bahamas. Christopher Columbus didn't actually set foot on the mainland. He had 3 ships, the Nina, the pinta, and the Santa Maria. -

Hernan Cortes
In 1519 Hernan Cortes sailed from Cuba to the eastern coast of Mexico. After landing they learned of the powerful and wealthy Aztec empire led by Moctezuma 11. Cortes was considered an emissary of the feathered serpent God or the serpent God himself. On July 1st, 1520 Moctezuma was stoned to death by his own people. -

Alonso Alvarez de Pineda
In 1519 Pineda injured a large bay with a sizable native American settlement on one shore. Pineda also name day river las Palmas, where he spent over 40 days repairing his ships. His map is the first known document of Texas history and was the first map of the Gulf coastal region of the United States. -

The first permanent settlement of europeans in Texas was the mission Corpus Christi de la Ysleta, founded near elpaso by Friars in 1682. -
