Bali Bombings
Three bombs are detonated in the town of Kuta on the Indonesian island of Bali. The blasts leave 202 people dead and more than 200 others injured. The most deadly of the three blasts was detonated in a van outside a nightclub. Another bomb was packed in a backpack and detonated in a bar and another was exploded in the street in front of the American consulate. Abu Bakar Bashir was responsible for the attacks. -
Madrid Train Bombings
In Madrid, explosions aboard four commuter trains arriving at Atocha station during the morning rush hour. Bombs were in backpacks, and detonated using a mobile phone, killing 191 people and injuring 1,800. An Islamist terrorist group inspired by al Qaeda was responsible for the attack. -
Beslan School Siege
In Beslan, Russia, Islamist gunmen take over 1,000 hostages, mostly children, at a school in North Ossetia. After a three-day siege many of the hostages are killed in an explosion in the school gym, after which Russian troops storm the building. The final death toll is over 330, many of them children, 800 more are injured. -
London Bombings
Four coordinated attacks by suicide bombers rip through London subway trains and a bus, killing 52 rush-hour commuters. The killers are later identified as British al Qaeda sympathizers Shehzad Tanweer, Hasib Hussain, Mohammed Sidique Khan and Jermaine Lindsay. -
Norway Attacks
A bomb was planted in Oslo,Norway then the perpetrator, anti-Muslim extremist Anders Behring Breivik, attacked a youth camp on Norway's Utoya island, killing 77 people, many of them teenagers. -
Boston Marathon Bombings
Two bombs went off near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, killing three spectators and wounding more than 260 other people. Brothers Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and Tamerlan Tsarnaev were suspected. Tamerlan died in a shootout and Dzhokhar was sentenced to death. -
Ankara Bombings
Two bombs exploded at a peace rally near a main train station in Ankara on Saturday morning, killing at least 95 people and wounding 246. A militant Kurdish group claimed responsibility for the bombings. -
Paris Attacks
The 2015 Paris attacks were a series of coordinated terrorist attacks that occurred in Paris and its northern suburb, Saint-Denis. ISIS claims responsibility for the attacks. -
San Bernardino Attack
14 people were killed and 22 were seriously injured in a terrorist attack at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, California, which consisted of a mass shooting and an attempted bombing. ISIS claimed responsibility for the attacks.
