  • Singing Nursery Rhymes

    Singing Nursery Rhymes
My mom and grandma loved signing to me.
  • PBS Kids

    PBS Kids
Some of my favorite shows were Barney, The Big Comfy Couch, Arthur, Dragon Tales, and Sesame Street and I learned so many words from watching these shows since some of them actually interact with you (e.g. they will say something and have a little pause so we would have time to respond) I really enjoyed watching PBS Kids growing up.
  • Socio Dramatic Play

    Socio Dramatic Play
My cousins and I used to create imaginary worlds, pretend to be characters and makeup scenarios. We enjoyed playing house and school.
  • Playing With Children

    Playing With Children
I always spent a lot of my time outdoors with neighborhood kids playing and exploring.
  • Communicating with Adults

    Communicating with Adults
We talked about the books we read together, how our day was. My mom also used a variety of words.
  • Books on Tape

    Books on Tape
Listening to a recorded audiobook while following along as its being read.
  • Spelling Test

    Spelling Test
In second grade every Monday we got a list of words and had to do different homework assignments using the words, and then on Fridays, we took the quiz. I learned so many words and I was a spelling bee champ!
  • Library Trips

    Library Trips
My mom always took my brother and me to the library so we could check out a variety of books.
  • Dictionary

    Dictionary
If I read a word and I have no idea what it means I pull out a dictionary so I can understand what's really being said.
  • Writing Papers

    Writing Papers
I learn a lot of my vocabulary from using the thesaurus because you can have a basic word but when I use the thesaurus it gives me similar words related to that basic word to help expand my vocabulary when writing a paper.
