    TR the Rough Rider at San Juan Hill
    Roosevelt and the commander of the unit Colonel Leonard Wood trained and supplied the men so well at their camp in San Antonio, Texas, that the Rough Riders was allowed into the action, unlike many other volunteer companies. Battle of San Juan Hill, (1 July 1898), also known as the Battle of San Juan Heights, the most significant U.S. land victory, and one of the final battles, of the Spanish-American War.

    TR First time named President (Vice President)
    Teddy served the 25th vice president under president William McKinley for six months in 1901, assuming the presidency after McKinley's assassination. McKinley was assassinated by anarchist Leon Czolgosz. As president, Roosevelt emerged as a leader of the Republican Party and became a driving force for anti-trust and Progressive policies.

    The Coal strike of 1902 was a strike by the United Mine Workers of America in the anthracite coalfields of eastern Pennsylvania. Miners struck for higher wages, shorter workdays, and the recognition of their union. Roosevelt attempted to persuade the union to end the strike with a promise that he would create a commission to study the causes of the strike and propose a solution, which Roosevelt promised to support with all of the authority of his office.

    When Congress passed the National Reclamation Act in 1902, the measure set in motion the dramatic transformation of arid sections of the American West to "reclaim" land for productive agricultural use. President Roosevelt supported the reclamation movement because of his personal experiences in the West and his Progressive-era conservation ethic.

    The Elkins Act outlawed rebates and made the railroad company itself liable for punishment along with the entity receiving the refund. Railroad directors informed President Theodore Roosevelt of their desire to cease the practice of rebates and he supported the bill in private correspondence.

    The Northern Securities Case
    Northern Securities Co. was sued in 1902 under the Sherman Antitrust Act of 1890 by the Justice Department under President Theodore Roosevelt, one of the first antitrust cases filed against corporate interests instead of labor. The majority opinion was ruled in favor of the government, saying that the only reason for the existence of Northern Securities was to create a monopoly on railroad traffic across the northern part of the country. The court ordered the company to be separated.

    The presidency of Theodore Roosevelt started on September 14, 1901, when Theodore Roosevelt became the 26th president of the United States upon the assassination of President William McKinley. However he technically "won" his first election in 1904. His presidency ended on March 4, 1909. Roosevelt had been the vice president for only 194 days when he succeeded to the presidency.

The State of California receded Yosemite Valley and the Mariposa Grove to the federal government June 11, 1906.

    The Bull Moose Party was a Progressive Republican third-party founded by Theodore Roosevelt. It basically ensured a Democratic victory by drawing votes away from the rest of the Republican Party in other words splitting the ticket. The Progressive Party was popularly nicknamed the "Bull Moose Party" when Roosevelt boasted that he felt "strong as a bull moose" after losing the Republican nomination in June 1912 at the Chicago convention.
