They wanted a much higher pay and an 8 hour work day; however, they got a 10% pay increase and a 9 hour work day. This strike jeopardized the major cities as they were in heavy need of coal. -

This act's main job was to create irrigation for the western arid states. The whole point was to "reclaim" the land for human use, so they made plenty of canals and damns and such so that people could much more easily use the land. -

The Elkins act banned railroads from being able to give large companies that shipped large quantities sales on their shipments. This was important because many times the two companies would work together to control shipping prices. -

Northern Securities was a railroad company that employed horizontal integration on other railroad companies in the era to create a monopoly. Roosevelt took the case to court and got the monopoly disbanded, which established his nick name of the trust buster because he had made a bug leap in taking down monopolies in the U.S -
Teddy Wins Presidential Election
After serving the rest of McKinley's term after he was assassinated, Roosevelt ran for president in 1904. He ran with the republican party and defeated the democratic representative Alton B Parker. -
Yosemite Becomes Nationally Protected
For some time Yosemite was protected by the state of California, but after Roosevelt visited in 1903 and the Sierra club fought for national protection, the park became a national park in 1906 to be enjoyed for centuries to come. -
Meat Inspection Act
This act banned mislabeled meat or misbranded meat from being sold commercially. This was created to ensure that meat on the market was slaughtered and processed in sanitary conditions. This overall helped to increase sanitation and health in the nation. -
Pure Food and Drug Act
The pure food and drug act of 1906 was created to prevent the manufacturing or sale of dangerous or poisonous foods. This was essentially just to ensure that the American people would be safe and healthy in their food choices and that they wouldn't be contaminated or be something that was not as labeled. -
Roosevelt's Trip To Africa
Roosevelt worked with the Smithsonian museum to collect samples for a new museum. He visited parts of Africa and pretty much camped around for almost a year. This museum came to be the National Museum of Natural History. -

When Teddy Roosevelt decided to split the republican party and make his own progressive party he created a new problem. He split the votes. By splitting the republican votes it allowed for the democrats to make their way to victory, and Wilson, the democratic representative, won the vote.
