On September 6th, 1901, President William McKinley was shot and died a few days later on September 14th. Energy crisis
Coal miners revolted against the railroad companies that controlled them, as their request for better pay and a shorter workweek was declined. In 1892, John Muir wanted conservation for Yosemite from the federal government, and hosted the Sierra Club in order to attempt to bring light to Yosemite.
