Theodore Roosevelt is born
Theodore Roosevelt, Jr. was born October 27th, 1858 in New York, New York. He was born into a wealthy family and was a very sickly child with asthma, but eventually overcame his health problems as he grew out of them. He was homeschooled and later attended Harvard University and served as New York state legislature. -
Becoming President
On September 14th, 1901 President William Mckinley was assassinated by Leon Czolgosz. Due to his death, the vice president became president which was Teddy Rosevelt. -
Coal Strike
The Coal strike of 1902 was a strike by the United State mine workers of America for higher wages, shorter workdays, and recognition of their union. Theodore Roosevelt tried to persuade the union to end their strike with a promise that he would create a commission to study the cause and propose a solution. -
Elkins Act
Elkins Act was passed in 1903 and it prohibited railroads from providing rebates to preferred customers. This Act amended the interstate commerce act of 1877 by the United States federal law. -
Pelican Island
On Pelican Island lays the first national wildfire refuge, created by Teddy Roosevelt through the refuge system. It is the only network of federal lands dedicated specifically to wildlife conservation. He would later create 50 more federal bird reserves and 4 national game preserves. -
Wins first full term as President
Theodore Roosevelt defeats the Democratic nominee, Alton B parker, and wins as the Republican nominee. He became the first person to win a full term as president after having to ascend to the presidency upon the death of William Mckinley. -
Yosemite under Federal Control
John Muri took Teddy Roosevelt to Yosemite to try to persuade him to take the land under federal control and establish it as a national park which Roosevelt did in 1906. -
Passage of Pure Food And Drug Act
the Pure Food and Drug Act prohibited the sales of misbranded or adulterated food and drugs in interstate commerce. This law improved medical care for people sickened by unsafe food. The law required that food be inspected by the government to ensure its safety. This was signed by Theodore Roosevelt. -
The Devil's Tower
The Devils Tower is located in Wyoming near the Belle Fourche River was the first United States national monument established on September 24th, 1906 by President Theodore Roosevelt. -
Visiting Africa
After Teddy Roosevelt refuses to run for the presidency again he anointed his close friend William Howard and won the election. After that Roosevelt left for Africa to collect specimens for the Smithsonian Institution and his desire to leave politics and focus on the natural need for action. -
Bull-Moose Party
The Progressive Party also know as the Bull-Moose Party was a third party in the United States formed by former president Theodore Roosevelt. A group of Republicans was dissatisfied with the renomination of President William Taft that it called for a third party. This called for the direct election of U.S senators, women's suffering, and multiple other social reforms.
