First Public School
Boston Latin School was the first free public school in what would eventually be the United States and it still operates today. This marked a huge shift in the world of education as it highlighted the importance of education for all not just the people with more money and made education more universal. Birth of the Teachers Union
The National Education Association was founded as an organization that wanted to have a strong impact on policy making and debates on schooling. This group has played an important role in the standardizing curriculum throughout the United States as well as implementing teacher training giving America a stronger overall school system. The Teachers Union has changed the face of education with a group that started with only 100 members but has since grown to the 3.3 million members today.

Brown versus Board of Education of Topeka
This Supreme Court case reversed the rulings previously set by the Plessy vs. Ferguson case which allowed for segregation in school in the separate but equal ideas. This case was the landmark decision that made segregated schools unconstitutional and allowed all children to attend any school they wanted no matter what their skin color was. Title IX Clause signed into law
The title IX clause makes it illegal for any school receiving federal funding to exclude participation in or deny befits from or discriminate against any person based on their sex. This act prohibits discrimination based on sex which forced all male schools to open their doors to women and for all schools to form and run women extra curricular activities. No Child Left Behind Law approved by Congress
This federal law provides funding for extra educational assistance for students in return for their marked progress by standardized testing. These apply especially to children who are disadvantaged and reauthorize and updates the Elementary and Secondary Education act. This law supports standard based education and hold schools responsible for academic growth and success based on those standards for all students, which makes for a strong society as a whole.
