    Gaming Systems
Our household has owned every gaming system available. It all started with the Atari and the original Nintendo.
  • First Exposure

    First Exposure
Starting kindergarten in 1989, each classroom had a few IBM computers. Most of us had never seen a computer before. Only one student, Sarah, knew anything about computers and had to teach the rest of us, even the teacher!
  • Music

    Music
My parents being children of the 70s, they collected an extensive record collection and we always had a record player around the house. So, when they broke down and bought a CD player it was a huge deal! Our first CD, which my sister and I had to agree on jointly, was Mariah Carey's Vision of Love.
  • First Home Computer

    First Home Computer
Our first home computer was a Gateway. It offered AOL chat and was connected using dialup internet. Keep in mind we only had one phone line and three budding teenagers!
  • Computer Games

    Computer Games
Much like video games today, the big thing in the 90s was computer games. My favorites were Oregon Trail, which I had been playing since the IBM days in Kindergarten, and Where in the World is Carmen SanDiego. I heard they are coming out with a Netflix series based on the latter!!
  • Cellphones

    Cellphones
I received my first cellphone as a gift from my sister right after I graduated high school. She was working for a cellphone provider at the time. While I don't remember the exact phone I had at the time, I have since been through several models including flip phones, the Motorola Razr, and several iPhones.
  • The Kindle

    The Kindle
One of my most prized possessions is my Kindle. I bought my first one in 2007 and was quite skeptical. I was sure I would miss and prefer a real book. I was wrong! I am now on my second kindle and would definitely grab it in case of a fire.
  • Smart TV

    Smart TV
Last year we cut the cord and got rid of cable service. We use Amazon Fire Sticks to access TV apps like Sling and Netflix. For our family, it was a great decision. The only drawback is the lack of some sports channels and local news. We were able to rectify that by adding a digital antenna. We do not miss cable service at all!
