  • Macintosh II

    Macintosh II
I did not really understand what a computer was or did. I would first see a glimpse of my sister playing a weird version of pac man that was on a floppy disk. I would occasionally try to figure out how to use the Macintosh months later trying to figure out how to turn it on, as I wasn't allowed to touch anyways, only to realize 6 months later that it broke and never had a chance to experience using the computer as I could never figure out how to turn it on due to being 4 years old.
  • Motorola StarTac

    Motorola StarTac
My parents first cell phone was a Motorola StarTac, complete with an antennae and only features were for calling, that was it. No texting, and didn't even have snake. My parents got the service with Verizon and occasionally when my dad was home and my mom was driving from work to home, he would let me call my mother which exposed me to cell phone communication.
  • Poo-Chi

    Poo-Chi
This was probably the most memorable gift for my birthday as a child since all my cousins had a Poo-Chi. This dog would walk, sit, and pick up a bone. I believed at that time that those few features of the robot dog were probably the coolest thing, maybe it was because i was 5, but taking a robotics course 2 years ago makes one realize that those basic features, are still used today.
  • GameBoy

    GameBoy
My sister received a GameBoy for her christmas around 1998. Since I was practically still a toddler, I was never allowed to play and bothered me till this day. When she moved out of the house, I took the gameboy from her room and finally got to play Tetris and Yoshi and would play non-stop, however, one could not play at night due to the GameBoy did not have a backlight.
  • AOL Internet

    AOL Internet
My parents having a computer mainly for scanning and faxing purposes, never had a reason for the internet. I remember that CD's would always arrive in the mail with free "Hours" for internet service. Being curious, I convinced my dad to use the disks, going through the whole dial up noises and process, my first experience was kind of boring, as my dad always hogged the experience and only to show me images from "AOL Latino" website as that was our extent extent of the internet for many months.
